Now here’s an idea: Autonet. This, along with a few similar projects around the Net these days, is past due, in my estimation.
While the weakest link is probably coming up with autonomous access to the wider global network, I am told by those who know this is not as hard as it sounds. I suppose it simply means it’s over my head. Still, I’d love to see this sort of thing take off. This coming payday, we expect to get a good wifi router. Should there be some request for it, we’ll share the signal with some neighbors. That’s after we switch to cable, since DSL probably can’t really carry it.
But having a good router should put us in shape to take advantage of whatever comes out this movement. It’s time to relieve the phone companies of the burden of having to care for all those customers.
