This is just a short item that can save you some time and bandwidth.
Using the netinstall disk from any RHEL 7.x clone requires you have already the mirror from which you plan to install the packages. From the install page, you select the source and choose to input an URL, typically in the following format:
http://centos.mirror.lstn.net/7/os/x86_64/
What you’ll get is the most recent release with no updates. To avoid having to process some 200+ updated upon logging into your desktop, you can also use an additional repo URL, and it can be the update folder on the same server:
http://centos.mirror.lstn.net/7/updates/x86_64/
The installer processes the updates list and grabs them on-the-fly. Result: Your installation is already updated and current.
- a list of CentOS mirrors
- a list of Scientific Linux mirrors
- Stella Linux (sponsor of the Nux Desktop repo we all know and love for multimedia and other goodies) only has a few mirrors, so it’s a little different game.
