We are not a gospel carnival side show.
Let’s remind ourselves one more time how this religion works. Our whole reason for hanging around on this plane of existence is His glory. Everything in Creation is ripe for exploitation in elevating His reputation and fame. He has revealed the primary way for us to make that happen. The revelation comes to us in the form of a narrative record of how folks learned about His expectations for us in this fallen world, and how they did or didn’t live up to those expectations. Finally, He sent His own Son to breathe life into those expectations. All we have to do is make some effort to understand Him as a man and what He taught from His Father, and we are on the path He offers us.
We are to reincarnate His life as much as possible in our bodies.
While those words are familiar to an awful large portion of humanity, we tend to attach a different pool of meaning than what they hold in their heads. We have sought to recover a different perspective because we find the mainstream way off course compared to the life of Jesus.
So we often say that, in essence, we seek to understand the Law Covenants of the Bible and live by them. That tends to change the conversation and we can begin correcting a wealth of false impressions people have about God. We also tend to say that Jesus is the Living Law and we are committed to living that same Law of God.
But our single strongest statement is living it before we talk about it. When asked, one of the first things we are likely to say is that we strive to conform to the moral character of God woven into Creation. We are trying to live according to reality, but a reality as revealed by our Creator. It’s not just rules and precepts, trying to be good, restrictions on our fun. We seek a higher grade of fun (“blessings”) that comes from being consistent with Creation itself. We operate on a different level of awareness altogether. It doesn’t get any better than this.
Or something like that; you have to say it in your own way.
For much of Church History, organized religion’s message has not been very close to that. Because their message was different, they used different methods than we would. We have to consciously reject their publicity methods. Aside from a basic starting place of simply living the Laws of God and then maybe talking about it a little bit, I’m not sure how God plans to get this message out. But He is His own publicity agent. Since this is His story we are telling, it’s up to Him to provide an inspiration and a means for sharing this radically different religion.
You can be sure that tribulation will provide an obvious means, but probably not so obvious until we see what such tribulation entails. It’s part of our religion that we know on a different level, and that we’ll know how to act when the time comes. Somehow, folks have to notice that those of us who hold to this religion are not like them, that we pass through the same experiences in a different way. But at some point, there will be enough of us that there has to be a general notice. That’s how God does things. Are you like me? I cannot imagine He would reveal this wonderful treasure to us and expect us to keep it to ourselves.
But even when the time comes, I’m not sure how much our methods will overlap each other beyond the basic Living Law of cosmic moral discernment. By now you would hardly expect me to act as if my methods and ways of expression are sacred. A major element in my religion is that you have to write your own narrative. If you mimic mine, you have the wrong religion. DIY and take responsibility for conforming to His calling on your life.
We could call it evangelism, but too many people load that word with stuff we don’t do.
Still, I think it will be very entertaining what our detractors call us, and how much the recognize the underlying similarities we all share, even if they simply notice how we are not at all part of the mainstream. We’ve all come together here because we all have some degree of rejection from the mainstream. They don’t like us and we can’t be a part of them no matter how hard we try. It’s just wrong in our hearts. Whether they drive us out or we simply leave because it’s impossible to stay, we all face that irreconcilable difference. Some of you stay anyway, but the alienation is impossible to ignore unless are fortunate enough to be in a church that makes room for you. That’s rare.
Whatever it is we do that gets us recognized as being somewhat on the same path, we cannot play the games the establishment religions have played.
Too bad “Creationists” is already taken.
Ha! The folks who stole that label drive me crazy, creating nothing but more confusion than they are worth. They take themselves seriously, but I doubt many others do. At any rate, I’m just praying that our message will be noticed.
