I’m working on the next book, a part of the Ancient Truth Bible study series. This volume will cover the Wisdom Literature (minus Proverbs and Psalms, which will each get their own volume) which leaves Job, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon.
At the same time I’m working on my new laptop. I’ll spare you the gory details but I find Win8 an abomination, so it will run something else if I own it.
Meanwhile, the insurance adjuster released his report and the insurance company will simply cut a check for what’s left after the deductibles. I’ll pass that money on to whomever accepts the job and whatever it doesn’t cover I’ll fix myself. Would you believe there aren’t that many contractors eager to take that job this time of year? That is, except for a handful of premium services that couldn’t do a mobile home roof for under $5k, and wouldn’t even discuss doing the floor or wall work.
Meanwhile, our unseasonably warm weather has fled the region. It’s pretty cool today and we might see some nasty stuff within a week or so.
Always give God room to work on things and people. Never close the door unless you know beyond all doubt He says to do so. That’s actually quite rare. You might have to wait half a lifetime on some things, but God never rests.
The insurance company doesn’t have contractors they recommend? I thought they would scratch each other’s backs.
It’s frowned on in this state, though not unheard of. Still, I chose someone with a reputation for fair price and customer satisfaction online. I’m guessing the payout will just about cover the roof and little else.
So the payout was about $5K? Keep the money and do it yourself. The roof-work is child’s play. Watch a youtube video or two if you’re unfamiliar. FYI, the reason no one will even ‘touch’ doing the wall or floor work is because of the CAN OF WORMS it is… And the liability they assume. I told you, these are disposable ‘habitats’. Contractors are well aware of the nightmare they are to attempt to “fix”. Most opt out, for business sake. I don’t blame them.
But if you found someone to do it for the cash you have, be very wary. Watch the youtube videos first. And scrutinize every detail of the job. Better yet, take my original advice and do it yourself. Might even earn a buck.
Western habitat construction and repair is a joke. Any unskilled hack can pretend to do it… And succeed. Trust me on this.
Buy a hammer and a sawzall and do it yourself. Or, even better, make something new and beautiful. As kids, we made tree-forts with filched construction debris that TO THIS DAY I would be happy living in. (My wife, not so much..) But, it’s not rocket science, and don’t let anyone tell you it is. (Home Depot is your friend).
Good Luck.
I could do all of it, except that my knees are too messed up for that much ladder work (for which I get a veterans’ pension; your tax dollars at work). It happened I found a reputable contractor who was searching for some spiritual guidance. He probed me about my books and my teaching, and unless he’s one hellacious manipulator, he’s rather excited about doing the job and reading my stuff. He’s already committed himself to doing more than the payout covers. Oh, and the figure I threw out was just for fun. The payout was under $4K. What he won’t do with that amount I will most certainly have to fix, because the lien holder will demand it. I’m not new to house renovation work, but I’m not the best, either. Thanks again, Pinko.
