Walk the talk; live by your heart.
All operating systems suck. Some are worse than others, but it really depends on how you use it. I tend to favor Debian Linux as the least painful for what I do. If I get my hands on any kind of hardware upgrade, I always try to get Linux to run on it. Even after I surrender to Windows (or anything else), I may try it again later. Such is what I did with my newish Dell Inspiron 15-3542.
I still have the other, older Dell Latitude 620 running Debian Jessie 32-bit. It’s fine, but not as fancy as the Inspiron. It’s also too old for any current version of Windows, though it says you could probably get Vista to run on it. That means Win7 could work, but dog slow, because this thing was designed for XP. At any rate, I am inclined to give it away to someone who needs a Linux machine.
If you are regular reader, especially if you’ve ever commented or communicated to me in any way about my work here, or simply posted a few likes, I want to offer you a chance to get it for free. You’ll need a receiving address in the US, of course, as the domestic shipping is all I can afford. If you doubt you qualify as a regular reader, you can always try convincing me I should pass it to you.
Dell Latitude 620, dual-core Centrino 2.0 Ghz, 4GB RAM, 640GB drive, a cranky DVD burner and the screen is just a tad dark (14″); the touchpad is a bit primitive. Somebody gave it to me because XP was obsolete. It runs Jessie real nicely. If you are new to Linux, it may be a steep learning curve. However, it also has a virtual machine running XP already on it, with a reserved 20GB of running space for Windows stuff you just have to use.
No big deal; I’m not trying to earn your praise and admiration. I’m trying to walk in my own teaching. I’ve always been quick to give stuff away, because it’s just stuff.
