Come on in and have a seat and a glass of iced tea with me!
Looks like we can’t afford the gym memberships any more. For me, it’s no horrendous loss, just a minor change of habits. I can easily ride up to Barnes Park a couple of times every week and hit those two workout machines at either end of of the fitness trails. I will probably try to get one of those giant bungee cords for a couple of movements I can’t do any other way — overhead press and upright rowing.
These days I’m more of a cyclist who lifts weights on the side. I ordered a fresh chain and cassette because those things do wear out. Luckily mine are pretty cheap on Amazon.
It occurred to me a ready market for my computer ministry might be found at local colleges. I’ve sent an email to the senior computer class instructor at Rose State, the campus closest to me. If I can get some kind of sponsorship to hang around on campus as a volunteer, I should be a lot busier than I am now. That’s another place I can ride without much trouble.
What do you think are the chances for a government budget shutdown? With the recent shifts in Congressional leadership, I’d say the more conservative branch believes they can win the PR war and force defunding Planned Parenthood. But here’s what worries me: I sense this time around we are more likely to see violence attached to this mess. I have no inside information or anything, but my heart tells me that the mood is running that way. We’ve come close to it a couple of times in the past two years, though the MSM has been hiding it.
Well, I gave KDE a fair try on my newish laptop. I love some of the features, but it’s still one of the buggiest desktop bundles I’ve ever seen. I’m back to using XFCE and I’m not likely to move off of that again.
Sadly, my second laptop died — you know, that one I was ready to give a way? That’s okay, but if I start doing my computer ministry somewhere, I sure would like to get something smaller and lighter than my current machine. I was drooling over the new batch of netbooks the last couple of days. There’s no way I could afford any of them and I refuse to run Windows or Android. Those brand new ones are almost impossible to install Linux on them. So I’m keeping my eye out for good used stuff from the late XP era up through early Win7. Gotta save up my PayPal donations for one.
It’s the turning of the season here. Just yesterday I spotted some sprigs of dandelion in the yard. They tend to hide out during the heat of summer and come back out in the fall. Nice, tender fresh sprigs out there — yum! Too bad those bag worms like persimmon trees; we’ve had a fierce infestation this summer. Still, it looks like there will be a decent crop. Once a freeze hits they’ll be ready.
I’m going to rewrite my notes on The Cult and make that into a permanent PDF on file here. Keep your eyes out for it if you want a copy.
Hey, thanks for dropping by!
Reblogged this on fileeagle.
Ed, have you looked at Craigslist for weights or anything similar? It’s been my experience that those are easy to get.
It’s not a question of getting, but of storing once gotten. This is a really large mobile home, but my son lives here with his family, too.
