Yet Another Funeral

Verna Mae Hurst, 6 December 1935 – 3 January 2016

If things go as planned, my elder sister will pick me up for the long ride back out to Tahlequah, OK today. The last time, I officiated at my father’s funeral. This time I will attend my aunt’s funeral. She was the last of Dad’s siblings; the only survivors of that generation are his brother’s widow and my mother.

Against social convention, I remind folks this is actually a good time to die. For those of us who still have a mission for Our Lord’s glory, we keep watching in stunned silence at things we could never have imagined we would see. Keep a good grip on your divine calling.
