This Is Getting Crazy

Between us and parish member, we could probably purchase a decent recliner. The problem is that our OKC Metro Area furniture market is nearly controlled by a rather bloodless mafia led by the Mathis Brothers and they really do not treat customers nicely. How that works out is that you would have a very hard time matching their price, but you get a lot of run-around and high-pressure obnoxious sales people unless you already know precisely what you want. I’m not a furniture guy. I can’t tell you what I want until I try it out, and I’m not leaving the house until I no longer have that much use for one.

If this was a service-connected injury, the VA would just give me one. Nobody wants to help a disabled veteran with a non-service injury. Trust, me — I’ve made some calls today to furniture places. Either they have expensive junk or they are under Mathis Brothers (a half-dozen big furniture dealers). And the various veterans’ agencies aren’t set up for this. With all the strict guidelines and people looking over their shoulders, this is just too far off the beaten path.

So I called on old buddy of mine, and he wants to help. He knows some church folks who still remember me (and maybe not always in fondest terms), but he has begun suffering memory lapses, so I will need to call back. But I’ve never seen something that was so simple take up such a huge chunk of my soul. I’m not angry, just bewildered by the huge noise they make about serving the customer and how abusive they are. But I can tell you that I have come to despise the Mathis Brothers Mafia.

Update: Contrast that with Dick’s Sporting Goods who sold me the bike. I bought it online and the local store stands behind it. The manager told his bike tech to go ahead and fix everything and then use the bill as part of my claim against the City. They’ll wait for their money.
