Re: How “Israelism” Has Replaced Christianity as the American Civic Religion
For a moment, let’s put aside how Ron Unz doesn’t really understand Christian faith. He’s looking at it as a religion from a social sciences perspective. He wonders why America is sacrificing its religion to serve Israel.
It is not possible to support Israel without crushing the Christian religion. He lays that out very clearly. The nation of Israel as a whole despises Christianity. Granted, they don’t really understand Christian faith, either, but they know they hate what they see of it.
The point I want to make is that Zionists in general will not distinguish between the external trappings of American churchianity and a genuine expression of covenant faith. They will strive to crush both. And Unz recognizes this as an ethnic Jew himself.
I’ll be keeping an archive PDF copy of this one.
A related question is recognizing that traditional American church culture is dying. Somewhere in the transition from Boomers to Millennials, something died. Once the Boomers pass from the scene, America will be an entirely different country. Not that I bemoan the loss of what Boomers have done; they were themselves a shocking destruction of what had stood for a century before.
America has never been a covenant nation, so it’s no great loss either way, for that matter. It’s just that I seriously doubt anyone alive today has any idea what’s coming after the current political and culture warfare. For good or bad, America will be gone, and something else will be in its place. This will be a dramatic shift for the whole world.
In other words, there is no America to save. For all his perceptiveness, Tucker Carlson does not see that he is flogging a dead horse. It was already dying from the poisonous bite of Zionism at the turn of the previous century. The complex interaction of the US chasing a Zionist dream has completely gutted what American might have been.
