Laboring on Labor Day

Our favorite American communist celebration, Labor Day, is tomorrow. Most folks get the day off to celebrate the rise of labor unions. I’ll be working.
Today, I discovered what a “weep hole” is on automotive water pumps. It’s an opening in the cowling of the water pump which allows the coolant to leak away if the pump shaft seal begins to leak.
Yeah, I gotta replace the water pump on our Jeep. I can just about afford the parts and gasket. It’s supposed to take four hours or so, which means I’ll be at it all day. I predict three scraped knuckles, several cuts and plenty of spilled coolant. I might even get it done.
Heh.

I can identify with you on this. Willing? Check. Able? Check. Fast?… Fast? (no check)
Also, Money for Parts? Check. Money for Labor? Money for…. never mind (no check).
Later… Got ‘er done? Check. Scraped knuckles? Check. Took all day? Check.

Actually, no scraped knuckles — bruised one though. Consider it included a decent 5 mile bike ride (one-way) for the parts. So far as we can tell, it’s working properly and not leaking any more. Total time was about five hours, oddly enough.
