Heart-Led Culture

I have no idea how, but we have to do this.

If you don’t get heart-led living, you can’t possibly understand reality; you won’t understand most of what you encounter in this world. For example, the decimation of the native cultures and population in the Americas was not a testimony to their weakness, but to the rapacious nature of Western Civilization. Westerners spitefully crush anything heart-led and the native cultures were just that. Only when the native groups adopt a Western means of expression do you see them complaining publicly. Proper moral heart-led living constrains your response in the first place, but what response it does generate is completely misunderstood by the blindness of those with no heart.

If you evaluate Western results from a Western moral poverty, you will always believe your culture is superior.

We who rediscover that heart-led existence are alienated. We are rather like Noah and his crew. We have to build something to carry on God’s divine work, something that can ride out the cataclysms we see coming. In the meantime, the few who even notice our call are mostly folks who are ready to take up arms against us. We expect this; a part of our heart-led morals even welcome it. It shows our effectiveness.

While we hate the prison, we don’t hate the prisoners, so we keep trying. Most of the time there is little to gain by firing back the same ammo. In broad moral terms, theirs is wrong in the first place. But it’s not as if we don’t see the horrific nastiness of Western culture, and we cannot shrink from saying so when the moment is right for that. Still, we do it because our heart-culture says compassion is fundamental to what we are.

I have no easy how-to instructions on this, but we have to find what is left lying among the shattered ruins of moral truth the West has destroyed and build a heart-led culture again. We have to seek among the rubble things that remain fit for our call to the dominion of the Spirit. Both as a contrast and yet somehow winsome and familiar, what we build has to find a place in the midst of this chaos. The reason I have no easy how-to is because that would violate the thing itself. Still, this has to be conscious choice.

We are building a new reality.
