Revisiting Draper Changes

DraperSEdockRode back out to Draper Lake today. The water was green, which is quite odd. You see, Draper is often laden with sediment, which gives it a pink or orange cast. Where lakes in this part of the country suffer an algae bloom, it tends to be yellow or brown. I honestly can’t tell why it looked so green today, but I don’t see it that often.

DraperRoadWorkSo I passed by the eastern end of the new road work and managed to find a high spot so I could get a clear shot along the uphill cut. I suppose it depends on the contractor, but if they are really good, they could have this finished before winter. Right now it’s all scraping and dirt work. I’ll keep checking and report back with pictures as it progresses.

DraperCrimeSceneWhat really interested me was the chance to see the area where the Medical Examiner team had been working. I rode along where there were lots of fresh tire tracks until they stopped at the edge of a washout. There used to be an awful lot of old dirt tracks around here back when off-roading was permitted all over the park. The ME vehicles had followed one of these but had to stop where the old track had washed out some years ago.DonMcEntireMemorial Scanning around, I noticed off to the left a lot of recent foot traffic had beaten the grass down, so I climbed a low grassy ridge on this path and found the scene where the ME had been working. Apparently this is where the skeleton was found, and the family left a memorial after the remains were identified. I took a close up.

I’m not sure we’ll ever hear the whole story, but it’s a very lovely place hidden from the road. I suppose if I knew I was going to die, that’s nicer than most spots. The camera doesn’t do it justice.
