There are no elite troops in the Kingdom of Heaven.
During my time in the Army, I encountered two kinds of people who belonged to so-called elite forces. There was the commando, the boasting warrior who could do most of what he claimed, and claimed quite a bit. Then there was the SpecOps who didn’t brag, but simply did some of the most impossible things.
The latter were most rare. It wasn’t the special knowledge or cool toys they got to play with that intrigued me most. And while I respected their exceptional physical abilities, what really got my attention was the way they took everything in stride. While there may well be things they couldn’t do, there was nothing they wouldn’t try to do when given a mission. Nobody had to wake them up in the morning or prod them to complete all the various requirements. They were used to functioning on little sleep, short rations and no comforts at all, until the mission was done.
In the Kingdom of Heaven, your greatest enemy is your own fleshly nature. All that spiritual warfare stuff is about you nailing your own flesh to the Cross. Ordering demons around isn’t the big deal. The primary focus is not the situation outside our selves, but what’s inside. We should aspire to be people who take things in stride, willing to try anything our Lord asks us to do.
Yet we should never boast in what God has shown us, where He has led us. Rather, we boast of Him and His glory in our lives.
Yayyyymen. True dat.
And I say an extra Amen to that!
