Facebook Hates Elderly and Poor

In the on-going saga of Facebook foul-ups, they now have decided anyone opening a new account must give their cellphone number and text message the confirmation.

Most elderly do not have cellphones, and the few who do aren’t into texting. The poor are likely to have no cellphone. Whose brilliant idea was this?

I realize they are under no obligation to reach out to anyone. But this sort of ugliness does not match the rhetoric of their sales pitch. The problem is most Facebook users don’t give a rat’s patootie, either. The whole thing is simply a giant snarky club.

I feel an article coming on….

  1. Weird. I know connected phone sales have gone way up, but it seems strange. I guess this is some misguided attempt to insuring that Facebook accounts are attached to real people as they use to do by insisting on a college e-mail address.

There’s got to be a better way, though. Maybe a verification post card option or something.
